Why Prison Hospice Reform?
There is very little understanding and even less attention to this critical education impacting a forgotten and maligned population. It's incumbent upon us to bring to light how much taxpayer money is spent on inmate health and how there SMART solutions that can reduce that tax burden to the public without upending the whole prison system. We can keep the prison staff and inmates safer. By helping them understand how diseases of age affect the population and the culture of the facility, provide operational solutions to problems facing prison administration with aging and ill inmates, and prove consistency across the prison system to ultimately save money.
"The prison system was flooded with the mentally ill in the 1980s. Prisons were never trained how to handle it so they medicated to get by. Now prisons are flooding with aging offenders and you can't utilize medication to fix that problem. I can train organizations on alleviating some of those issues, speak directly to the fiscal and humanitarian benefits of SMART prison hospice reform, and advocate to ensure there is dignity at death."
